Coding for kids in Kenya

Four ways a child, a teenager or a parent can start with us, and one section for schools. Each links to the page with the details, so you only read what applies to your family.

Holiday AI Bootcamp: ages 12 to 18

The Holiday AI Bootcamp is for students from Grade 7 to Grade 12, ages 12 to 18. KES 20,000 for the whole programme. It runs Online on Google Meet, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm, with an in person Hackathon and Graduation in Nairobi.

The current run is 2 November to 11 December 2026, Hackathon and Graduation on Saturday 12 December 2026. Children start from zero, and those who already code get harder builds. Over the weeks they:

  • learn how AI works and where it fails,
  • build a personal webpage, then a working mini app, then add an AI feature to it,
  • work in a team on a problem they pick, and pitch it at the Hackathon.

Everything goes into a portfolio the child keeps. Dates, joining late and the refund policy are on the Holiday AI Bootcamp page.

STEM Selection Workshop: choosing subjects

Choosing the wrong subjects early can limit options later. The STEM Selection Workshop is a live online session for learners in Grade 7 to 10 and their guardians. It covers:

  • what the STEM pathway is under CBC and what it leads to,
  • the difference between Pure Sciences, Applied Sciences and Technical Studies,
  • which subject combinations suit a child who wants to become a software engineer,
  • what to do if a school does not offer Computer Studies or Advanced Math,
  • common mistakes in pathway selection, and how to avoid them.

Parents are recommended to attend, and attendees get the replay. Check the workshop page for the next session.

HighSchool Graduates Launchpad: for KCSE leavers

The HighSchool Graduates Launchpad is for KCSE leavers. It runs in four phases: foundations with an AI learning toolkit, JavaScript and interactive logic, backend concepts with real data, and a capstone with a career launchpad. Learners finish with a deployed portfolio and live projects. If your child has just got their results, our guide on joining tech straight from high school is a good first read.

AI for Parents, on the Academy

AI for Parents: Raising Confident Kids in the Age of AI is a self-paced course for parents, KES 2,999. It has 7 modules and 43 lessons, so you can understand the tools your child already uses before you decide how to guide them.

For schools

We run talks and hands-on sessions in schools and universities. Watch our visit to Starehe Boys Centre on 24 March 2026: a lecture for the students and a walk around the campus.

Schools can also ask us about running a coding club or an innovation hub inside the school. Write to hello@mctaba.com or message us on WhatsApp, and tell us the school, the grades and what you have in mind. We will say plainly whether we can do it.
